actually what's the difference between the union and marriage? is it:

one is only done in a civil environment, but they'd have the same tax rights as a married couple (which is what I have a problem with). and the other can only be done in a church?

the reason I have a problem with affording additional tax rights, is it shouldn't just be applied to just that group which now wants special privileges added. who decided they were the only alternative lifestyle out there? where does that leave utah and similar areas (multiple wives) and me and my 4 husbands, oops I mean 5, sorry honey. now keep scrubbing those floors!! (good help is sooo hard to find! )

Hmm Tamra ... I don't know, I think I don't agree that it could be done in a church, but the taxes deduction thingy is something to think about...

And I don't think polygamy is a good thing, actually I think it's creepy.

ok joking about the polygamy thing but what I meant was I'm asking what's the difference and used examples to figure out what the difference is between a union and marriage. as in marriages are only done w/in churches, however some people also go to city hall/justice of peace and are legally married or have a non-denominational wedding. so that's where I got confused about the union thingy.

because isn't the end result the same thing? because the primary purpose for the civil union is the additonal tax right that are afforded to married couples. the primary complaint being heard on and offline about the need for civil unions.

I'm still sticking to my idea, Marriage is for heterosexual. Because IMO a marriage is blessed by God, it's an institution.

I'm just against the idea.

I guess I don't have an opinion on this subject either way because it doesn't personally affect me.

I do believe that marriage is meant to be a union of two hearts who love eachother, blessed by god, and with the intent to procreate. In that regard, I look at it as a matter between a man and a woman.

On the other hand, I duly believe in the foundations laid out by our forefathers: Separate Church and State while setting forth laws and amendments.

Then again, I believe in tradition: I believe that male-female marriage is a sacred tradition which has been around since the beginning of time.
I also believe that saying "One Nation Under God" is a sacred tradition and it pisses me off that it's been conveniently removed from the Pledge of Allegiance. I'm sure our ancestors who fought their asses off for our freedom in 1776 are flipping over in their graves.

As far as same-sex marriages, I have an ambiguous opinion. If it becomes nationally recognized by the the state, I won't fight it. If it doesn't, I wont fight it either.

but I wonder what the issue is in the UK for same sex marriages, because typically the "traditions" that fly in the government here are based there since we've been under the british influence since mid 1700's anyway.

Misquoting the Bible will surely get you into trouble. He said be fruitful and multiply. I firmly believe you are twisting Gods version of create. The future you are creating is in no way what God is talking about in the Bible.

Issues about homosexuality originate in the Old Testament. It is ironic how today's christians say Jesus created new laws to justify what they feel is right, while omitting the origin...

the verse they're specifically referring to is Lev. Chapt 18 v. 22. but a guy named Jesus wipes out old laws, esp. eye for an eye. so this doesn't count anymore because

went out when Jesus died on the Cross.

and ironically this same old testament book concerns government and judicial laws formed and many that are still used today globally, including by the U.S. which has many christians in congress and law enforcement.

so we are to love one another, that means any and everybody, one big orgy, gay, straight, whooo hoooo and the laws of the land are legalizing same sex marriage, so you must follow the laws of the land.

amen and church is out and do what you feel. kill, rob, molest/rape, just love one another while doing so.
