My new computer toy

Whee! I just purchased another seemingly worthless part for my PC from my job at an awesome price today!

Its a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro! It has sooo much crap for audio and digital output it isn't even funny...crazy.
The funny thing is, I didn't even HAVE a sound card before I got this bad boy, I've just been using the on board sound from my motherboard...NOT ANYMORE!

Oh yeah, and THIS is the system I'm working with...

2.0GHz Athlon XP Processor
512MB PC266 RAM (Soon to be 1.5GB)
Geforce 6800 GT 256MB 8x AGP Video Card (My pride and joy)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro
5.1 Logitech Surround Sound Stereo System
60GB Hard Drive (A little small I know)
52x24x52x CDRW AND a 40x CD-ROM Drive
Not to mention a high-speed broadband internet connection...

So, whatcha think? Is my system l33t or what?

was laughing at the no sound card thing but I see you redeemed yourself.

I gotta upgrade my laptop but just glad to have what I have. the graphics, DVD and CDrw are very convenient esp. for travelling (hates airline movies)

now all ya gotta do is get a real OS

Well, I have to use Windows for my course work this semester, sooo that change will be a long time coming. Speaking of which, my Internet Programming course looks like it'll be a very interesting challenge, it'll be alot of work though...

I wonder if instructors are gonna keep going in the cost dependent asp modeling system direction or the more open sourced direction.

Well, for the first half of the semester its basically gonna be XHTML and Javascript, then it'll be VIsual Studio 2003 and ASP.NET... I was hoping to learn flash but, I guess not

wow, I guess it part of standard course requirements. I would think php, mysql, and focus on more wireless stuff would be standard these days. I don't know any web devs who use any of that, other than some xhtml coding.

javascript's good to know, however, many of the same things can be done with perl or php.

but the main thing is to understand the concept of a language then you can easily move on to other apps and languages.

Fart around with SwishMAX if you want to get a jump-start on FLASH... it's a simplified FLASH application with scripting capability (so you can do all those really neato math things like percentage preloaders, precision sprite movements, etc.). I found it much easier to work my way into Macromedia's apps after figuring out Swish...

smell? really? ok I'm gullible because I'm actually wondering how that's possible. but then again, almost anything is possible with a little creative programming and simulation.

but actually nigel the phones that we have in the US are years behind Japan. my niece and I went to Japan and saw phones that were years ahead of us. 3+ years later, some, including style/colors, were just entering the US as new phones, but they were "been there, done that" in Japan. and they were dirt cheap. we wanted to buy one, but it was all kanji chars and would have just been for souvenir purposes only.

the reason phones are slowly making their way here is we can't handle the bandwidth required for all the new technology (we didn't plan ahead, whereas Japan is strictly satellite), so the FCC is slowly letting new technology enter as they prepare for the traffic for them, and of course the monitoring to make sure the technology isn't "spy friendly"
