I haven't read the materials directly myself, only bits and pieces that have been quoted in the papers.

Dan Abrams has said that he has read every page of discovery and that while he isn't willing to call the accuser a liar, he believes the defendants should not have been charged. However, I do feel compelled to mention that he did graduate from Duke.

When I read the newspaper, somethings ring true and other do not. I am never 100% certain that I have evaluated what I have read correctly. Unless I've seen something with my own eyes, I am never totally sure.

The "gay bashing" consisted of a push, some punches that did not land, and some name calling. The accused were not angels, they left themselves open to this sort of problem.

like I said, in no area in this country will a black woman's word alone be taken over that of a white female or male. there would *have* to be evidence to proceed.

and in spite of town being majority black, I don't know of any area where poor blacks rule or have controling power. the only predominately black area that may have some power is Atlanta. but even still not enough to just claim a white person raped a black person. this is still the post slavery america, one that never apologized for slavery OR jim crow which benefitted immigrants greatly.

True in Atlanta black people have a little power but if we get too cocky with it "Cynthia McKinney" white people are quick to "remind" us of our place. My great grandmother taught me to know when to speak, to know when to say yes maam, and to know when to say oh hell no! And I personally think this has been a case of the cover up being too good. No justice will be done here at all so it should just be dropped. I still think the fact that this girl was a stripper has cast a dark light on her from the start and makes it seem like she is wronging these guys for coming out and saying something happened to her there.

This paper can hardly be accused of being part of a white rascist conspiracy.

My point in posting the article is that the black press is beginning to wonder if the district attorney used this case to gain black voters in his bid for election.

I doubt that his statements early on in the case, many of which turned out to be untrue, were mere errors in judgement. More likely they were a calculated effort to deceive the public, in particular the black community.

It seems that you are so focused on the odds against the accuser making a false accusation and being believed in this part of the country that you aren't taking a hard look at the behavior of the district attorney. From where I stand, he makes the DA in Eagle, Colorado seem like a hard working decent fellow.

I think Eagle and this case are two different scenarios. In the Case of Kobe, he was assumed guilty immediately by the media & the town tramp, Kate Faber, was called a "teen saint". In this Case, the Duke lacrosse players indicted are being treated like saints. The majority of reporters are siding with the rapists.

I too have not heard their side of what happened in that house. Seems to me that information would have been told by now. But they seem to be covering for each other over what happened in that house. & there is no sympathy for the girl especially from the media. Let's say she is making this up. Wouldn't the players THEN want to reveal minute by minute what exactly happened in the house to clear everyone's name??? Why let a fake story proceed all the way to trial if you know what really happened in that house??

If I was accused of a crime, I wouldn't say a word to the police or to the prosecutor. Especially in this case where I believe the prosecutor lacks integity and the police chief says he is looking for a conviction rather than the truth. I know from experience that the police sometimes lie, maybe they think it's for a good cause, but just the same they will lie. I wouldn't give them a chance to twist every nuance of my statement in an attempt to make it appear that I was a liar.

This case has too many people doing too many things for their own reasons on it for it to go any where. This young lady may have been raped and because of the DA and Police own motives for persuing the case in the way they have nothing will ever come of it. Oh except for maybe this girl looking like the world's biggest liar. That is what really gets to me about this case noone gets that the only thing she has done was report a crime and she is being used for whatever these people can get out of it and when they have gotten all they can get where will she be?

I do have some empathy for the accuser. I don't believe she intended to harm anyone, she was just trying to survive and be able to care of her child. According to her cousin she had been offered a bribe from Duke allumi, and donations from supporters, neither of which she accepted.

If it weren't for city officials using this case for personal motives nothing would have come of it. It's understandable that she could make quick decision, especially in a very difficult situation, that she might later regret. It's unforgivable for officials to leave her in hiding and the accused objects of scorn for nothing more than political gain.

The thing is are they really objects of scorn? Whatever comes out of this she is really the only one that hasn't had much support for whatever reason. The media has come out with every reason for why these young men aren't rapist and why she shouldn't be believed, so really who is going to come out of this worse for wear.
