Apparently now they want to control the Internet too

I just heard about this....is this new? Regardless of whether it is or not...I don't like where this is going...

Congress is pushing a law that would abandon Network Neutrality, the Internet's First Amendment. Network neutrality prevents companies like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast from deciding which Web sites work best for you -- based on what site pays them the most. Your local library shouldn’t have to outbid Barnes & Noble for the right to have its Web site open quickly on your computer.

Net Neutrality allows everyone to compete on a level playing field and is the reason that the Internet is a force for economic innovation, civic participation and free speech. If the public doesn't speak up now, Congress will cave to a multi-million dollar lobbying campaign by telephone and cable companies that want to decide what you do, where you go, and what you watch online.

This isn’t just speculation -- we've already seen what happens elsewhere when the Internet's gatekeepers get too much control. Last year, Canada's version of AT&T -- Telus-- blocked their Internet customers from visiting a Web site sympathetic to workers with whom Telus was negotiating. And Shaw, a major Canadian cable company, charges an extra $10 a month to subscribers who dare to use a competing Internet telephone service.

Man...we already pay enough for High-Speed Internet...and content discrimination like this would only make it worse for those who can't pay the price...keep in mind that this would probably affect Internet charges as well since they would more than likely be de-regulated...which would mean the ISPs would try to rip us off...

I knew it was only a matter of time. but don't they have enough to worry about like a war that's costing billions and skyrocketing gas costs?

obviously money is involved by doing this and it sounds like a bill pushed by a lobbyist who stands to gain from stock through AT&T and the other companies mentioned by doing this.

I just discovered that congress mostly acts on things where there money to be gained privately from the decision. sad we're prosecuting organized criminals but what about the ones running the shop.

right now they're thinking about profits by excluding others. but now the oil decision they made years ago by cozying up to oil lobbyists have come back to bite them in the ass because an exclusive world was created. not to mention their lobbyist are being indicted left and right.
