I have to admit, for all the hype about this show...it has been a disappointment.

And I agree, there IS too much focus on the families living with each other and not enough focus on day-to-day activities.

I have to say this...with the exception of Rose, the white family doesn't get it at all. Just because they haven't experienced outright racism yet doesn't prove that its not there. Carmen is an idiot...how in the hell do you think that saying bitch to ANYONE can be anything but negative?!

There have been very, VERY few instances where race was actually perceived...like in the 1st episode where Nick went into that shoe store in his white makeup and immediately noticed a difference in the was he was treated...that hit home because I personally have never had someone actually use a shoe horn and fit the shoe for me. I didn't even know that they DO that!

And I know that this is a bit but from my personal experience growing up in a mostly white suburb...it used to be really hard for me. I had like almost no friends...mostly because I was smart, and different from most of the other black kids in my neighborhood. For a good portion of my life I only had white friends. There has only been one time where I actually experienced racism in school...and that was from a teacher, that moved me from the front of the class to the very back...and my mother was NOT happy, even though it might have just been a mistake in the seating chart (I personally don't think so). Its strange...because apparently I act 'white' just because I'm intelligent and choose not to slang my words...even a couple of years ago when I used to work in retail, people would automatically assume I was in school just because of the way I talk. So...thats my little rant for today.

But anyways, returning to the original topic...I honestly think that Rose will be the only one to get something valuable out of this experience.

yeah I know what you mean, you find your first instance of racism surprising, because it's who you would least expect -- someone w/a position associated w/intelligence or respect.

but keep in mind, blacks were discriminated against by their own government, including congress and lawmakers, just 40 years ago. it still happens now, but it's subtle.

I just can't get over blacks (in the south or any heavy euro-immigrant area) NOT allowed to be law enforcement officers for their own neighborhood until after the 1970s. can't even protect your own neighborhood and the protection they had was also lynching them.

but I'm glad you pointed out language. Bruno just assumes THERE is one language for blacks, his perception of slang. they should drop his ass off in the hood using that nonsense and see what happens. and then drop his ass off in a white Mississippi neighborhood and see what happens. I'll bet he'll drop the slang REAL quick..

I'm debating if I'm going to watch next week's because this week was nonsense. and again, how much can be covered in the 3 remaining 1-hour episodes.

and I wish they would have let Bruno and Carmen wear those "Coming to America" ass outfits to church. that would have been funny just to see the looks on people's faces.

I totally agree. The show was much awaited & talked about every day. But it has turned out to be more of them at home together. Boring.

It's also true California would not be as racist as the south, midwest or NE. The information won't reflect rest of country. & it's true, presidential candidates lobby heavy in south first & last before election. This show should have been taped in our president's home state: Texas. Kanye felt Bush didn't care about blacks, but let's see how Texas feels about blacks.

I missed tonights show. But don't think I missed much. I think it repeats later. This show could have exposed a lot. But really didn't.

after last week's show I forgot all about this week's as well. I was even channel flipping when it aired both times and completely missed it.

oh well...it's just that last week's show was filled w/too much interaction between the families, not the outside world. and that church scene was a waste of time. I would have done that a whole lot differently by placing them both at opposite races churches. because I've found it that people who say they love God the most openly, esp. in church, hate the most. Rindy Abdelnour is a perfect example: God is love, God is white, God only loves white people, you're supposed to hate blacks and "Jesus" is white. and she sits in church WEEKLY.

Hey the most seperated time in America is 11:00 Sunday morning. My Grandma used to say don't really worry about the people in Church cause alot of them going straight to hell through the church door and some of them busting through the pulpit. But I caught part of the show tonight and when the young black guy( sorry can't remember his name) said it was ok for them to say nigger around him when they were just joking around set up back 110 years. I mean I had to change the channel cause they were being disrespectful with it and he didn't even get it. One of the white girls was more upset than he was. I mean its a totally disrespectful word that comes from a word that means ignorant. Maybe if he knew that it would bother him a little more but then again maybe not.

yeah I caught this week's show yesterday but fell out laughing when the black father, Brian, said he should have brought the neighbor's kid after his son, Nick, didn't get it.

but keep in mind the son was also kicked out of school, another thing I have an issue with. like Rose said last week, he fits the stereotype: uneducated, proud of using slang, loves bling, etc. and he got kicked out for being violent, as in tryin to defend a stupid rep. but had no problem w/being called nigga. although the word is said so much in rap music that most all kids listen to, how are they to know?

I did love it when Rose and her mother visited their own neighborhood, they weren't really welcome. and Rose's comments were funny and real, esp. when she was mimicking the sales person's patronizing smile

but Rose is the bomb. strange because she came from 2 complete jackasses. well Carmen isn't as much as Bruno. Bruno's ass needs to be dropped off in the hood and his mission is to get a job using the hood's address, find quality food, etc. and make it home alive since he believes it's all how you treat people.

Yea the few times I have seen it makes me wonder if he just doesn't want to see it. Better yet let him send in two resumes but change his name to umm Boheim on one and see if he sees it then.

The show was disappointing. It seemed to be advertised as one thing, but turned out to be something else. Another reality show about people living together. Just what we needed.

I was expecting more info from encounters with people outside of the house.
