ok so I watched Saved!

Saved! was hilarious.

which brings up the question discussed in the movie: why do most white people believe Christ was white?

and when asked why they believe he's white, the answer is "well, it really doesn't matter"

I know why blacks have that infamous picture of a blonde haired, blue eyed Christ on their wall. it's something that's been passed on since plantation days and many have simply accepted it.

but what's strange is, for blacks who have lived harshly through Jim Crow (spit on, family members killed, segregation, etc.), there's a white guy on their wall that they truly love, but hate the idea of any whites being around them or don't trust whites at all - insert So. Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Florida here!

Religion is rarely questioned or looked into. What is taught while growing up stays with a person unless more information is obtained later in life.

The common Jesus portrait is a must have thing in black homes & churches in the south. It is hung on wall with love.

I would think Jesus' message is more important. But many with the common portrait also have certain messages wrong because the south still has so much hatred for races on both sides.

Religion didn't have that great an effect on me when I was young. I was just a bored kid who didn't understand Latin and wondered why I was eating fish on Friday.

Still, I agree that things that you are taught when you are young do stick with you until you stop and take a look at them.

When I was about four, I was at my grandparent's house and playing with a black boy in the back yard. My grandfather came out the back door and said "no grandson of mine is going to be playing with a g*d d**n n****r". Then he took a broom and swatted the boy on the behind as he chased him down the driveway and out of the yard. At the time I felt kind of guilty and thought "I didn't know...". It stayed with me for a long time even though I really didn't consciously think about it.

My grandfather was an honest, hard working man that loved me and would risked his life for me. He passed away in the 60's and I love him to this day.

Some fifty years later, though, I can't completely reconcile that with the idea that if I had been born that black boy, I could have been exactly the same person on the inside that I was back then, but my grandfather would have felt completely different towards me.

j/k unfortunately that situation was all too common in the south.

the thought of a non blonde haired blue eyed Jesus would kill many like that.

one of my junior and high school best friends' father was a former klan member. not really former, he just couldn't go to the meetings publically anymore. he hated blacks w/a passion obviously. and of course, what's a teenage girls favorite thing to do? sleepovers!

we'd rotate homes and when it was his daughter's turn, oh lawd. let's just say his look was piercing. but he was looked at like "whatever dude", then forgotten once everyone arrived and the screaming started and music began playing, followed by piling on the makeup while talking about our favorite subject: boys!

now here's the irony, his daughters ignored everything he said and lived their own lives. they were the nicest and sweetest persons you could ever meet.

they took care of him as he got older, but they've never taught their own kids hate.

and funny I was just talking about the "good" david duke and how his daughters probably think now as they're now adults. still can't believe we attended the same school, and had some of the same teachers, even though he attended a few years before I arrived.

I just didn't know race or hatred of other races, no kid really does, they're taught it. even at about 6 I remember my first weekend sleepover. among everyone was an asian girl, a spanish girl and it was given by my friend who was white and her and her brother were like and additional brother and sister because we were always together, and her brother chased us w/lizards just like my brother. bastards!!!!

I just found it ironic that many of the black kids at school and some family on mother's side who hated whites in general because of Jim Crow laws and other racism had a giant framed picture of a white guy on their wall that they loved.

the only sunday school class i have ever remembered was the one where Ms. Davis (couldn't stand her she said i read to much) gave us a box of crayons and the passage where they described Jesus and told us to color him. Then she asked a group of 16 year old girls why did we think the most popular version of Him is different. We thought about it and sayed what was the point and she said that's the point exactly. veiw him as you like but the message is still there.
