Thanks, Vinnie - it's good to be back... I've missed everyone, that's for sure. I wish everyone coulda been at the wedding - we had a blast. We opted for a really simple ceremony and the Ladies Ministry came up with the idea to have a REALLY old-fashioned "pot luck" reception. We had 3 ministers involved altogether - Pastor Wayne officiated, Pastor Mike led all of us guys in prayer before the ceremony (at my request) and Pastor Shane played "Grill Master" (along with his Uncle Keith) during the reception. It was AWESOME! At our one-year anniversary, I'll invite everyone from the forum to come over for a BBQ and cake...

What's a TRS-80 puter?

Ok, I'm really about to show my age here... TRS-80 was a Tandy Electronics brand of computers sold through one of their companies, Radio Shack (TRS=Tandy Radio Shack) in the late 70s through the early-to-mid 80s (maybe a little longer, I don't remember). They were completely proprietary systems that required Tandy peripherals (printers, floppy disk controllers, etc. - although, the tape decks could be of any brand, really). My Dad bought me a Model 1 (like the one seen below) for my 9th birthday in 1977.



My Dad, who had been working with computers in the Army for several years, saw the potential for the home PC market and decided to get me and my brothers started early on them. My system's seriel number (Dad bought 3 of them for all of us) was all 0's with 11 at the end, so I felt special.... lol. This was the system that I learned BASIC, machine language and hexidecimal programming, along with dBase II. Things I NEVER use now... lol

Then, for my 12th birthday, Dad went out and bought a TRS-80 Color Computer (affectionately known as the "CoCo") so that I could start working with color graphics..... REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY low-res color graphics.



My brothers' interest in computers had pretty much dropped to the "Yeah, this is nice for typing school papers and holding my clothes off the floor." level, so Dad only bought one of these relics. It plugged into the television for use as a monitor and, through several upgrades, I was able to eventually get 64k of RAM (instead of the original 4k) and I ran a very small BBS over a *GASP!* 300bps cradle modem. This was also about the time that Compu-serve came on the scene and we were THRILLED to be able to have an actually *live* conversation with some dude in Boston (we lived in Montana). My Dad, ever the packrat, actually kept our entire CoCo system, up until 4 years ago, in a storage closet in his house. He tested it just before selling it to a collector in Las Vegas and it actually still worked!

Ok, well now that I've completely bored you with an answer MUCH longer than you probably ever wanted, we now return you to your regularly scheduled programming, already in progress....
