Chicago Passes Smoking Ban
You can now add Chicago to the list of cities that will be enforcing the smoking ban in all public places, including taxis and city vehicles.
The ban goes into effect on January 16 which happens to be my birthday (My 30th for that matter!).
<--not crying over the ban, crying over the 30 part!! Anyway, I am taking this as my sign from God or whomever that i MUST quit smoking. ASAP for that matter
Starting today, I'm gonna do it!!

When we moved I was shocked at how bad the clothes smelled (that were in the closet at the old place). I washed everything, and now I only smoke outdoors.
That isn't helping my health tho, and I do hope to try again in the New Year.
It doesn't really matter to me if they ban smoking in those places, since I normally don't smoke in a restaurant, and we don't go to bars.

The first time I tried to quit (years ago) it seemed so easy I wondered why I hadn't quit long before. I don't remember
If you're gonna offer us something to help us quit, it will have to be something a lot stronger than sugar.
I've smoked since I was thirteen. I've quit twice, once for six months and the second time for nearly two years.
The little guy banging his head against the wall applies to me, too.
The first time, I had a hundred dollar bet with my boss. He could afford to lose, but my wife would have killed me if I lost. It took me six months to win the bet and then I started up again.
The second time, after my wife and I separated, I convinced myself that I would look younger if I quit smoking. Well, It didn't work, I didn't get the girl, but I did last about twenty months.
Both times, I chain smoked a pack of cigarettes just before midnight, so I would remember smoking being like licking out a dirty ashtray.
This New Year's Eve I'll be chain smoking again and I'll quit for the third time, hopefully the last.

I know huh, :d it's easy for non-smokers to say quit as we have no idea what's involved.
and statistics show I should be a smoker. my father and mother smoked and my father was a drug addict. just something I never got into, or even alcohol much and even w/growing up in New Orleans w/almost everything was available even at a young age.
tried smoking once in high school while cutting class w/friends who were also smokers. but, although it looked cool, it just seemed strange to puff smoke in and blow it out, and there was no jovial non-addictive high involved (ok I could have just said pot
)
then I saw the price of smokes then and recently and still couldn't understand the habit.

The first cigarette I smoked was one of my grandfather's that I found in the garage. It was a Camel non-filter and the pack was probably a couple years old. The first puff that I inhaled felt like I'd been kicked in the chest by a mule. I was pretty shy back then and I felt more confident with a cigarette in my hand.
I can see why smoking seems so silly to a non-smoker, because if try to look at it objectively, it seems just as silly to me. Unfortunately, once you've been smoking awhile it seems normal, some of them taste pretty good, and you get pretty stressed out if you don't have one for awhile.
