Brother may you rest in peace.
i have them both, and they're a must read esp. if you look at the mentality of african-americans today. what he predicted has literally come true about how doing better for yourself and self-respect brings about so much more positivity for community as a whole, and to separate and learn first before integration, rather than integrate and become more lost, and rather than awaiting for handouts from the same institution which profitted from slavery. now kids today, don't want to hear about his words, they only want to hear the next words out of 50 cents mouth or the next great thug to come along.
honestly desegregation was more harmful to the black community, because before in spite of oppression, majority of blacks practiced self-respect, owned their own businesses and were more self-reliant because they knew hell would freeze over before a bank would loan money to start their own business, and blacks patronized their own businesses, making it and their community grow. regardless of where they lived, respect for home and family was important, and many lived with dignity even while being spit on, kicked or having their family members killed for simply wanting an education or the right to vote.
and I visited the audubon room when it was being re-dedicated by his daughters, and visited his gravesite, something you'd be surprised many african-americans living right near him don't even know exist. his grave, next to his wife Betty, is just 10 minutes north of Manhattan.
the same cemetery where he is contains the graves of so many influential and infamous people, including James Baldwin, Malcolm X's favorite writer.
but Judy Garland, Joan Crawford, Trigger Mike Coppola (yes, mafia), Alan Freed (father of rock and roll), Adolph Caesar, Moms Mabley, Diana Sands, Sherman Billingsley, Harry Archer, Oscar Hammerstein, Aaliyah, Jam Master Jay, Malik Sealy (basketball star who committed suicide), Thelonius Monk, Paul Robeson, Vincent Rao (yes mafia too), Tupac, the Ed Sullivan, gosh the list is so overwhelming that if all of these people rose, WOW

well after you're done reading either of those books you'll understand why. it starts with self knowlege, but kids today wanna learn from ironically 50 Cents and other rappers who were former drug dealers, or hoochie mommas like Britney Spears, for the get rich regardless of who has to die or be conned for it plan (umm Kevin Federline has "game"). and strange as their parents would be the first offspring of that same 60's generation.
and not surprised it was being tossed out, if it's not being checked out by the same people above, it serves no purpose to the library which has expenses to take care of.
