Profits from slavery

well this is personal for me, because I've seen first hand both sides of this coin.

the problem is the ancestors of those slaves are paying for being significantly behind for generation after generation.

the second problem is 2nd and 3rd++ generation of slaves are still living in SLAVE-LIKE conditions in the same area where the plantation homes **STILL** exist. they're under-educated, living in makeshift homes (shacks), no assistance available and ironically ancestors of slave owners still come around and dip into the "chocolate" -- you can pretty much tell because every now and then a mulatto kid shows up w/out a father.

the way slaves were freed, was the equivalent of freeing a bird with a brick tied to its back. there were plans put into place and started by General Sherman. our own government, including presidents reversed these plans, which included housing, animals, land and businesses to take over immediately after the war. as in while they had been set in place, came back and gave the property and assets back to the slave masters. again, this is all documented literally.

do you see AETNA making any compensations? its company was founded to insure the loss of slaves. The NYSE, have you seen any apologies or compensation? that was started as part of the auction block to sell slaves. and before even purchasing a female slave, the things she had to endure to deterimine if she was breeding material was inhumane and unbelievable.

please try removing compensations from jews and japanese americans now who are still today being compensated for a significantly less amount of time of suffering. for african-americans we're talking from about the beginning of 1700s until the late 1980s. because if you think african-americans had it easy w/out the right to vote, equal protection under the law, no housing, denial of even the simplest jobs because it was too visible to have a black face even in a coal mine, and other slaps in the face, think again. how survival has been possible is from working together w/in the black community and some little handouts that ironically many are complaining about and using as an excuse to say "well yall have this, white people can't have this", but white people don't need to have a title for something that already exists.

I come from a multi-racial family. the struggles for even family members to be together prior to the 70s was sometimes unbearable yet supported by each elected official.

it's like an every day insult you live with. but for the most part blacks have moved on. the other sad part is younger blacks are now looking up to folks like thugs and drug dealers as they're not going to play the game any longer, as in work to get ahead in life. they've seen that game played already by their struggling mother and father who became hopeless and fell into drugs and crime. and ironically during segregation, african-americans worked together to maintain some sense of normalcy w/in all the conditions for them.

now with no decent leaders (and no wants to step up after the way Martin L. King was gunned down, monitored, labeled as a communist, etc.), it's every man for himself in the face of the reality of their world and some of the same conditions that still existed in the 60s. I even saw those same conditions in So. Carolina. I was expecting to see a runaway slave on my door step anyday. the fear and mindset of slavery still exists because those who are descendants of slaveowners still exist and behave the same way.

Hey Tamra, you have some really great points and It is always interesting to see other sides of the coin.

Do you still live in the south? For some reason I was gathering you live in NYC... Either way, I have no doubts about how you are saying certain attitudes towards blacks prevail still today. I imagine it is definitely so in the south, but it is also evident in the smaller rural towns in the Midwest (From where I see things) and surely all over the place.

We're all human, people need to get over it! -- prejudices of all sorts and whatnot. But, unfortunately, it's just not that simple. This goes down into the wall of shame feedback forum re: people that need to be dropkicked: closed minded people!

I grew up in the south, in new orleans, which was one of the major slave trading ports. attended the same high school as David Duke -- his legacy lived on at the school by the time I arrived. meanwhile in my home I was never told there was a difference between people. my friends were black, white, asian and spanish.

many of the plantation homes are still in the new orleans/bayou area. two major ones involving napoleon bonaparte himself and a british dignitary are just 10 minutes west of the airport. the conditions of the slave quarters are unbelievable. hey at least holocaust victims had their own bed. picture multiple families living in a 12 ft x 12 foot room (hot as hell in summer, cold as ice in winter), or sleeping on the ground in a barn chained to prevent from running away, while the masters hound dogs had individual cozy dog houses w/many comforts.

after college i moved to the west coast. many years later, I stupidly transferred to a division of a california company in so. carolina, where strom (thank goodness now dead to prevent more damage) thurmond is STILL a well respected man -- the company is featured in the wall of shame here.

of one of the many wild things done, the company actually sent an email in support of maurice's bbq (http://mauricesbbq.com) owned by a known ex-klansman. company funds were even spent in support of the restaurant. the word "hate" has now been cleverly replaced with the word "heritage" which was commonly used by the faked HR/dir of operations in the columbia office. but heritage of hate, heritage of lynching, heritage of ignorance is how they should apply the word. ironically this same division hated california and claimed californians were a waste of their time, but loved the california money which kept them comfortable in ignorance. but as I say, if not seen I'd never have known and thus could never talk about it.

and here i was caught in the middle of blacks hating whites (the whites deemed most racists were the only ones who invited me to their church, which I found was diverse) and whites and several of their literal "can't work with blacks buddy" who were shuffled in amongst clouds of lies, and by a man who was soon to be convicted of fraud. and they're still there.

many blacks in So. Carolina are literally afraid to speak up and will accept any kind of treatment, including mistreatment by and lying for their employer which could be up to no good. reason being they have to do what they've been conditioned to do to survive. like slavery.

Yea too bad I couldn't tell u about SC first. A military training base is there. Most folks I know had to go thru there. They all hated it and said it was like being 300 years back in time. Nice land for money. But a lot of live black snakes on roads & in yards.

yup, dodged lots of snakes dead and alive on roads. a 5 foot long fat black snake was run over in street, but managed to crawl to neighbors driveway and died. they were on vacation so me and another neighbor moved it to lake area. (well my neighbor did most of the work, i had a long 10 ft pole literally in hand trying to help ) the black snakes are considered the good snakes because they eat the possums and other critters. but also eat cats and rabbits.

and it's so dark at night, lawd knows what's out there, including a runaway slave. there were so many poisonous snakes, unusual looking bugs including tiny scorpions and big ass frogs. the blue lizards were pretty and shiny, but quick! and the ones my cats brought home to me almost daily - the pimp lizards: brown slick and shiny cover with yellow pin stripes. the crocodile hunter would have a field day there.

i must have been on the good crack the day I chose to move there.
