gay pride parades

ok here's what I don't understand, parades are occurring all over the world with naked people or semi-naked people in very sexual and x-rated clothing.

what does this have to do with pride? why not wear normal clothes and march and show this is REALLY who I am and who I am everyday instead of wearing masks, costumes, performing sexual acts in public, dancing in an X-rated manner, etc.? INCLUDING IN FRONT OF CHILDREN??

which brings me back to my original question from a long time ago, isn't this just about who you sleep with in bed and no one would know this unless you tell them and why should there be special rights for bedroom activities. because when you work with someone straight or gay, do you ask them upon arrival to work: hey what'd you do in your bedroom last night and with whom?

or is the strong emphasis on sex in the parades a demonstration of being proud of a very sexual lifestyle including with both men and women.

yeah apparently I don't I saw the parades on the online news and couldn't figure out the "pride" part. I had to look away as some things being done in front of children were unreal

wouldn't a more positive message be sent by simply showing up as person does DAILY everyday? i know people don't wear provocative costumes daily and perform sex acts in public unless it's during Mardi Gras in New Orleans or Rio or unless they're in some showbiz field.

so in order to get others to be more accepting, wouldn't it be best to be yourself, not parade up and down streets in a g-string performing sex acts including with children around. that's all I'm saying -- be who you are DAILY for the pride parade, as in take pride in yourself and show your face, so that people know that all types of people (the guy next door, the doctor, etc.) is part of this lifestyle, that way others can begin a dialog on the whole issue.

I didn't make it home in time for Chi-town's pride parade yesterday, but it's always a hoot!

However, I am an adult, so I am old enough to view such an event. I'm also old enough to choose not to watch it if I do not want to.

What totally surprises me is the number of very small children that are usually in attendance at these events. -- and brought by their parents, no doubt. Our parade is totally risque and certainly is not for tiny eyes. That's my only beef with it.

that was my biggest issue with watching the video footage from parades around the world - the kids being present while "sexual" things were allowed. the one lady with the g-string dancing on a pole who then taught her son how to dance on a pole.

I thought the idea was to keep the kid OFF the pole. if your child is dancing on a pole somewhere, you've failed somewhere as a parent.

at Mardi Gras as children we were NOT ALLOWED on Bourbon Street, we were told point blank not to go and our parents and older cousins NEVER took us there. we could only go to public parades, which were pretty much clean. but when I was 16, our older cousin snuck us down to Bourbon Street, the stuff I saw was wild. scary at first, but figured as long as I stayed close to cousin, looked straight ahead, I'd make it home ok.

naked people walking around some in just body paint, some with just leaves on (supposedly as adam and eve), couples having sex on the streets LITERALLY while people were photographing it, marijuana being smoked openly and drugs and alcohol being handed out. and knowing how much those beads actually cost (less than 1 cent or $1.00) and what people did for them was

my late uncle was a cop, it was too much for them, they were only looking out for the violent crimes and drunks at risk to others that day. so pretty much anything was allowed as not possible to arrest all these out of towners for misdemeanor stuff.

I saw no difference between the gay pride parade and what happens on bourbon street during mardi gras. parts of the gay pride parade are even aired on tv in the bay area, live but censored for a reason.

Key point you made there MILTIE ... You're old enough to choose not to watch if you dont want to.

As far as children being present ... they're gonna see it somewhere. And GAY people have children too. I think it would make sense to educate their children about the lifestyle they have chosen to live.

I personally don't have a problem with Gays or the Gay pride parade. As I have mentioned in other threads, I live in boystown, i live harmoniously amongst the gay & proud of Chicago, and I am straight as an arrow.

Yes, gay people have kids, I have no problem with that.
I also see no problem educating your children that many people walk amongst us: black, white, jewish, islamic, gothic, punk, hillbillies and trailer trash and YES, gay and lesbian and other alternative lifestyles. Start 'em off open minded while they are young. Absolutely. Teaches kids not to be so damned judgmental.

but as Tamra pointed out in a post above, these pride parades and other homosexual / homoerotic festivities feature near nudity, lewd, explicit actions, etc. that children NEED NOT be exposed to at young ages. There is no difference in exposing your children to near naked gay men in assless chaps making out or gyrating their pelvises against one another than there is exposing your children to a straight strip club, porno, or whatever.

Common sense should tell you that there are some things children DO NOT need to VIEW until they are of appropriate age.[/i]

Hey miltie. I totally understand what you're saying when it comes to what should and should not be displayed in front of children. I have a daughter myself, and I would not do anything disrespectful in front of her. It's all about morals, and one's up-bringings.

Ironically, I've never been to a Gay Parade. So I really don't know what type of things go on at them.
