Huh? What? Who?

Yes I actually have a question...I'm thinking about experimenting with a Linux OS...any suggestions as to how I should go about it? I know I could easily get a copy of Linspire from my job for like 10 bucks...and since I have a bit more free time now that midterms are over (Thank GOD) I'm kinda curious to see what Linux is like...

the other thing is the installer has improved greatly. it used to be that you had to find all your drivers needed for sound, video and other hardware accessories.

and the other cool thing is you can still keep windows installed if you must have it and in your linux loader file (lilo) you can specify which OS boots first or manually boot the other one.

as long as steeleye ain't involved you're looking at some pretty reliable software from redhat.

Depending on your usage of it, it is a wonderful OS and great alternative to UNIX or god forbid...Windows...lol.

We use Linux as the alternative on all of our previous UNIX servers. After experimenting with load times for php / MySQL applications, it seems Linux is coming out the master, with an average php / mysql page loading up to twice as fast.

Definately worth playing with.

and don't forget no crashing. but Linux is pretty much similar to unix in that on unix, you can run x-windows type applications. but overall compared to windoze, linux is a much better choice for reliability, speed and quality.

and mysql vs. sql, no comparison, mysql blows sql functionality and performance out of the water.

well we better be quiet , microsoft may get wind of this and keep pursuing their takeover of portions of linux and mysql as more and more folks make the switch.

Dont forget the fact that MySQl is free compared to the very large price tag for MS SQL server, usually ranging around $2000.

We did some load testing 6 months ago for both, and MySQL came back as faster loading by an average of 25%. Woo Hoo!

yeah the whole premise behind linux is free or next to nothing costs for quality stuff, which is why microsoft is staking out its claim to linux and linux based apps. but linux folks aren't gonna budge too much. no how, no way. there must be something remaining that's just for continual progress and reliability.

as more and more users become aware, there are less and less MS users. the info is out there, but because most people don't take the time to look, they're pretty much MS hooked and dependent out of the PC box, with less and less info. btw, my cat tina can point and click better than some MS user folks. i knowww she's got a website somewhere, I can just feel it.
