actually, you're getting some of these questions daily from "what's her name" with the equally smart b/f, and then they get passed on to me :lmfao: so you kind of know what tech support goes through. a lot of deep breathing, tongue biting and squeezing of a stress ball, which is given to all tech support people.

See, this is why I could NEVER work tech support...I'd be too busy laughing at the dumb questions to answer them.

And yet, people wonder why when they sign up for a beginner computer course they get taught:

"This is a mouse, and this is a keyboard..." and all that jazz....its because some people actually DON'T KNOW what they are! And then they say they didn't 'learn anything' pfft...technology isn't something you can learn overnight, it takes at least a week....One day of complete stupidity, followed by 3 days of making mulitiple mistakes from trying the things learned from the stupidity. Then two days of going completely insane from making all those stupid mistakes, and then the last day of an overwhelming "Ahhhhh so THATS how it works!"

yeah but a lot of tech support was just baby sitting. I used to bring a puzzle and even a coloring book because 90% of my day was RTFM stuff -- they just don't want to read and want you to handhold them, and be their eyes and brain.

it's just easier for some, and the biggest excuse for calling -- it's too technical (translation, I don't feel like reading) or my favorite excuse from the 65++ page crazy lady: "I'm not a computer person". but did you forgot how to read, and yet managed to find a computer store??? and hmmm... page 1 of the manual is technical?? because 50% of the problems involved setup and not following instructions/steps.

so I was just so used to providing instructions from the manual, I would just color or solve a puzzle while they were taking forever to find simple things like software menu buttons, menus or their dayumed phone jack if it involved the actual modem. and hey the customer was paying for the call.... so take your time.... you must pay for your mistakes or you'll never learn

Yep, thats true...tech support is costly for those dumb customers who are too lazy to read. And thats the way it should stay.
