Lamont "Hakeem" Bentley Died Tonight

Post by Hmph »

He was killed in an auto accident on the San Diego freeway.

For those who don't know, he played Hakeem on TV's Moesha. He was 31 years old.

This is just wild. And another sign of ongoing problems with driving in California and the never ending danger.

Just hope and pray he's at peace.

'Moesha' actor killed in auto accident
Lamont Bentley was 31

Friday, January 21, 2005 Posted: 7:47 AM EST (1247 GMT)

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Lamont Bentley, who was a regular in the 1990s sitcom "Moesha" and appeared frequently in television and movies, was killed in a car crash, his manager said Wednesday.

Bentley died Tuesday night when his vehicle plunged off the San Diego Freeway, manager Susan Ferris said. He was the only person in the vehicle.

Bentley, 31, played Hakeem Campbell, the longtime friend of pop singer Brandy's character, Moesha Mitchell, in the UPN sitcom "Moesha."

Bentley had appeared in a number of films, including "The Wash" and "Tales From the Hood." He also played Tupac Shakur in the TV movie, "Too Legit: The MC Hammer Story," and had appeared in guest roles on "The Parkers," "NYPD Blue" and "Clueless."

The Milwaukee native and father of two daughters began his career after moving to Los Angeles with his mother, an aspiring singer.

"This is a big year for him," Ferris said. "We were very excited because he was coming into his own. It's like a candle being snuffed right out."

Ongoing problems with driving in California? I didn't realize that barrelling up the road in your Benz at a high rate of speed, running a stop sign and tearing through a chain-link fence before plunging off a cliff was something proprietary to California roadways.

Now, while I grieve for the man's family, let's not put blame where it isn't due... this guy's driving was an accident waiting to happen.

ouch! well you know those calif hills and roads are so tempting with a high performance automobile that you must learn to drive and control first -- I think that should be on page one -- do not attempt these things unless you're a professional driver.

An even better warning on the front page would be, "Don't drive like a friggin' idiot - slow the hell down and those red octagonal signs mean 'STOP!", not 'SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO TAKE A DRINK FROM YER BEER'!!!!
