Hendrix's 'gay' claim to avoid Army

Rock legend Jimi Hendrix pretended he was gay to get out of the US Army, a new biography reveals.

Hendrix was discharged from the 101st Airborne division in 1962, launching a musical career that would redefine the guitar, leave other rock heroes of the day speechless and culminate with his headlining performance of The Star-Spangled Banner at Woodstock in 1969.

Hendrix's subterfuge, contained in his military medical records, is revealed for the first time in Charles Cross's biography, Room Full Of Mirrors

I knew there was something about him, just couldn't put my finger on it.

just kidding, but just think what if he had gone to Vietnam and was killed or hand disabled in the war. we'd be jamming to Liberace exclusively today :o oooh perish the thought

definitely the Hendrix-meister, the man. all along the watchtower is still a wake up call, yanno

but :lmfao: I know I remember my 666 post well. unfortunately it was a nice one, shoot! I was hoping it'd be evil, diabolical and downright gritty, something to make even the devil blush! oh well, maybe at 6666

oh shoot, it made the front page of CNN
http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Music/0 ... index.html

I don't care, I don't even wanna imagine how things would have been w/out Hendrix. and funny, what if some of the members of Jefferson Airplane and The Grateful Dead were drafted. their songs are signature trademarks for that time during the war. and their posters aligned so many soldiers quarters in Vietnam. some of the music kept them going through another day.

like I can't imagine music w/out the contributions of Jim Morrison, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, The Temps, or Aretha Franklin nope, not at all :nope:

oooh and Otis Redding and Sam Cooke. so it is true, things happen for a reason. praise the lord!

Ya'll leave Jimi alone now !! 101 Airborne is elite paratroopers I believe. He could have broken fingers or damaged vocal chords jumping out of perfectly safe airplanes !!! :guitar:

hey it's not us, it's the media. we support hendrix's decision because look at the outcome, yanno. imagine (pardon the pun) if John Lennon had decided to become a chef and Paul McCartney was drafted in the Royal Army and killed in action.

Englebert Humper??(spelling?) would be the man with Tom Jones not too far behind him.
