well, i know I've sent quite a few reports, and a lot of ISPs/tech folks are fed up. but only because i have a certain mail reader -- only the html code of html messages or raw source is displayed and i can choose to display in HTML. so the url's pop out right away and immediately a red flag. from there do a quick whois and it tells where domain is registered, to whom, etc. and then you see a pattern, including the same bogus info for different domains, all selling drugs, stolen/pirated software, fake watches, you name it. I even wrote a document that got distributed to a lot of services and some changes began, including how mail is now received.
if it's legal, they wouldn't go through such slick efforts including hiding who the sender is. and someone's obviously been buying this stuff, otherwise, spam wouldn't have spread like wildfire. but part of it is how mail has been received by novice users who interact w/the email.
did you read about big arrest recently?

tamra hon I don't know if you can explain that any easier to me you know these computer things boggle my mind. I know you know what you're talking about. And about that pharmaceutical ring arrest, I didn't read anymore into that than the law busting these guys. What are your thoughts on the law also banning cigarette sales online from overseas ? Same thing ?
Wherever I go, I play the victim role well. Watch, but don't learn from me.
cigarettes are sold illegally on streets of NYC all day, every day, esp. in Harlem. people from disadvantaged areas/countries are finding ways to get around that law, which is the same as the online drug trafficking. web sites are being spammed with ads to buy alcohol and cigarettes from other countries which breaks customs and importing laws.
chile where have you been?
welcome to the new crime wave.
coming soon to a computer near you.
but oh that's right
the us (computer stuff) against "them".
but you know in 3+ more years more email and web technology will be out...so if you're not familiar with the basics of what's there now, then your head will be spinning later. so better get a little prepared with some basics, otherwise, it can be costly in several ways. like if you just wanna point and click, and not know, that could create more problems than you know as online crime and fraud is increasing.
but kids know a lot, enough to buy drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol online.
various agencies, including law enforcement set up an online sting to bust people who were doing nothing more than drug trafficking via email from overseas and right here in U.S.
I'm waiting for the mob hits for sale! chile got my list ready!

I understand all that but my question to you was how do you connect it with terrorism ? I don't believe it is. It's just peeps finding ways to make money. And they use tricks that aren't in the books until they're found out about. Then it becomes an old trick in the book.

umm ok
money is required to fund organized illegal activities. emails from overseas areas for illegal products are increasing more and more.
the profits from the spam is going somewhere
not saying all spam is terrorism related, but based upon location of some of the links in spam email, it wouldn't surprise me. and why not? they have to get money for travelling, food, weapons and more.
the link (i.e., url, such as "buydrugsfromme.com" for example is registered to someone in iraq, afghanistan, egypt or other nearby areas.
you the user who received the email and doesn't know better or wants to buy illegal products, clicks the link and make a purchase from a site which is also hosted on a middle east server.
again, not all are in middle east, most are hosted on Asian (russia, korean, china) servers from slick folks right in U.S. trying to make money.
either way, all illegal and you don't know where the money is going to.

Back in the 80's for every dollar you spent on Toshiba, .10 went to support Russian weaponry !!! I guess that didn't go over well as Russia is in a sad state of affairs from what they used to be. I know the profits are going somewhere and I also know that these terroristis need money. But also know they do not want to be traced in any way shape or form.
