Why didn't the elderly plan for retirement in the first place? To sit back and think that the government is going to take care of anybody in their old age is just an invitation for folks to say, "Well, screw it - I'll squander my money now, cuz I'll get some later.". Anyone would be naive to believe that they money they pay in would actually come back to them in any reasonable fashion.... I mean, c'mon - we're talking about the government managing the money! If that isn't the biggest farce on the planet, I don't know what is....Laurie wrote:But gee RangerBob, do u really thing that the Us is taking care of their ederly with the social security? First of all, I never said that we shouldn't care... what I said was, if someone is naive enough to believe that the money they pay INTO the government is ever really going to come BACK to them in any reasonable fashion, then they're basically living a pipe-dream. Given this era of information availability, just about everyone is aware of just how much of a joke our government is - how they've misled the public, how they squander our money on useless programs, etc. My point is, don't ever count on seeing the same amount of money comin' down the river after you retire as you sent up the river while you were working.tamra wrote:on the post RangerBob, because if we shouldn't care, then why is our government deducting money from our paychecks for their retirement and ours??
Personally, I don't think there should be any income tax at all - municipal, state or federal.... but, that's an argument for another day....
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today... it's already tomorrow in Australia.
