Two Police Officers Shot In Queens

NEW YORK - Police say a man being arrested in a New York City subway station for using a child's student fare payment card struggled with two officers and grabbed one of their guns before shooting them and trying to run away.
Both officers were rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, police said.
They say a nearby lieutenant heard the Tuesday evening shootings, saw the man and shot him four times.
The plainclothes officers and the man have been hospitalized.
One officer was shot in the chest but was shielded by his vest, the other was shot in the leg, WNBC.com has learned.
One officer is listed in critical but stable condition. The other is stable.
A suspect was also shot and was also taken to Elmhurst Hospital, News 4 New York has learned. There is no word on the suspect's condition.
Prosecutors say the man will be charged with attempted murder and could face 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
The F train bypassed the 21st Street/Queensbridge station in Queens because of the police investigation into Tuesday night.

NEW YORK - A man accused of entering the United States illegally in 1998 was arraigned at his bedside in Bellevue Hospital Thursday on charges of shooting two police officers and firing shots at a third before being shot himself.
Raul Nunez, 32, a native of the Dominican Republic, is charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault, and criminal possession of a weapon, among other charges, attorneys said.
The two officers were shot Monday at the Queensbridge subway station at 21st Street and 41st Avenue in Long Island City.
Officer Shane Farina, who was shot near his sternum and suffered a fractured rib, was in critical but stable condition. Officer Jason Maass, who was shot in the lower back, was in stable condition with bullet fragments in his pelvic area.
Maass and Farina, plainclothes transit officers, were wearing bulletproof vests protecting their chests, police said.
Nunez was shot twice in the left leg and once in the torso and right leg by a nearby lieutenant as he tried to run away, police said.
Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said the defendant allegedly admitted that he went “wild” because he feared being again deported.
According to the charge sheet, Nunez entered a turnstile using a student Metro card that he was not authorized to use. Police asked to see his identification before putting him in custody.
That’s when the defendant is accused of grabbing the gun of one of the officers and opening fire.
The officers are expected to recover
If convicted, Nunez faces 25 years to life in prison.
