which sickened me about statements someone made who's no longer posting here - JGirl, who claimed she wouldn't report anything suspicious to law enforcement, even when she knows something is wrong. it's in the trials & trib's forum under Joseph Duncan thread.
Joseph Duncan had time to sit outside the house and survey it. imagine if a neighbor saw him and did nothing.
same with Richard Davis who stole Polly Klaas from her bedroom. he was SEENin the neighborhood hanging out in his car days before kidnapping, raping and killing her.
I hate to say this because I have the greatest sympathy and respect for the Groen family.
But they weren't prepared. They willingly allowed a single man tie up all three adults and at one point actually tied each other up on his command.
The mother and her boyfriend were found to have meth in their bloodstream which may have had something to do with their inability to react.
It cost all of them their lives and little Shasta will never be normal as a result. Here was a family that lived in a separatist community and encouraged by their community to protect their firearm rights. But they weren't active.
Humans have no real developed sense's,Guard Dog's are the route to go for women and children even though the life span is only 15 years. You just buy and trian new dogs when the previous expire. Now, for those folks who can't afford a dog or live in confined spaces I suggest other protection.
Children must be trained to understand that their strength is no match for an adult attacking boy or man and their are laws in place to protect these children and their parents if they chose to kill in self defense.
But the intended victim/ child must learn to think quickly and shoot only in the gravest of extreme and understand the difference to what a group of jurers views legal threat and non-threat.
And if that's JGirls attitude not to report crime or help. she will be very surprised when she recieves a felony count and does 6 years of hard prison time someday for it.
Duncan would still be free and Shasta may be dead, along with other kids harmed. I still don't understand why an alert was not made on national television repeatedly regarding his disappearance when he failed to show up. can you imagine if someone like Dahmer had fallen through the cracks and disappeared before his trial? we already saw what happened in the case of Ted Bundy when he snuck out of custody -- he killed more!
