The Wooden Bowl

Post by Hmph »

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year old grandson. The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together at the table. But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating difficult.

Peas rolled off his spoon and onto the floor. When he grasped the glass milk spilled on the tablecloth. The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess.

"We must do something about Grandfather", said the son. "I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor." So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner. Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. When the family glanced in Grandfather's direction, sometimes he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he had dropped a fork or spilled food. The four-year-old watched it all in silence.

One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He asked the child curiously, "What are you making?" Sweetly, the boy responded, "Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in when I grow up." The four-year-old smiled and went back to work. The words so struck the parents that they were speechless Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done.

That evening, the husband took Grandfather's hand and gently led him back to the family table. For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, when milk was spilled, or when the tablecloth was soiled.

Hey Tamra, I am here.

I am slowly making my way around this forum.

It takes me awhile.
You know, read a little, post a little, explore a little and then repeat.

This won't be read by many, as you pointed out, but I was just getting ready to find the place to write my next idea. It may as well be here. I know you will read it and that is who I am aiming at anyway.

As I have stated, I am really loving this forum and I wanted you to know why.
First I love the many topics. The folks are so welcoming and there is diversity of ideas and backgrounds. I use the blue lagoon to view the words. I never was one that only wanted to sit and chat with the ladies. I found the subjects really boring.
I have another name on Fratpack and I mostly just read there and shake my head. If I get too smarty over there I get banned. I want to see what is going on over there so I stick around and laugh at them.
Then Modbee has changed so much and all they do is call name. Both my friends and the ones that I do not care for. Name calling is so childish.
Then there is some that seem to have a lot of women and their ideas and its like going to a quilting bee.
It gets old fast.
But I needed something to get me away from the old
"SCOTT PETERSON" crap.
Its not healthy to dwell on one very unfortunate happening, for more then two years.
Your forum has been a real joy.
Now I am reading some of the topics that no one has responded to yet. I may throw my :twocents: :twocents: your way. Notice that was 4 cents.
Anyway I now see I have two messages. I better go take a look see.
Thanks for being here.

yeah I've heard about all those other sites, and ironically left fp because of a pedophile before the 1 opinion only type rule.

I certainly don't want everyone agreeing with me, if so I'd think the end is near  but at same time, I personally wouldn't want to be attacked for everything I say, yanno.

:ontopic:
well, I'm glad you're getting around to reading many of the topics. some of these heathens in here just run right past this area  just kidding yall heathens who are probably now peaking in to be nosy
