I really screwed up...

Post by KingFo1 »

...today at work, and I'm really bummed out about it. I accidentally forgot to ring up a printer that almost left the store...and on the SAME transaction I took $30 off the wrong item by mistake. Needlessy to say, the managers were PISSED at me. One yelled at me right there, saying: "How could you miss a printer?!" It made me feel really stupid, and something like that has never happened in my four years of retail, where I didn't ring up an item. THen the assistant store manager just lectured me, telling me to be careful and to call for help if I need it...he was also upset, even though he didn't show it.

After that incident, I was really upset...I definately lost some of my pride, and I really let it get to me, even though I shouldn't have...I mean mistakes happen right? But still nevertheless I was pretty depressed, and I'm still a little sore about it, even though he apologized on my way out, it didn't make me feel any better...words are hurtful, and I'm more sensitive to these types of things (I have my mom to thank for that) Speaking of my mom, she told me that I didn't have to take it, and that if I wanted to quit I could, but I'm not a quitter...and I do need to take care of myself. I'll suck it up after a good nights rest I hope. However I will start job hunting Monday...that is if they don't fire me by then...in which case I will still be job hunting Monday.

It really hurts when no one understands you...and when you feel like its you against the world, thats the way I feel right now. :(

yup words can't be taken back. but the actions the person takes after saying certain words matter and can make the words a vague memory of the past.

if their actions after the harsh words are spiteful and more harmful that confirms their true nature: they were always a viper waiting to strike and won't stop striking until blood is drawn.

if their actions are sincere and determined to amend and correct what was said or done, that shows they're human and do make mistakes. but the rite of passage for everyone involves a mistake and the steps taken after the mistake. for some this can be life altering.

but :pat: don't let it get you down. if your heart was in the wrong place when it happened, as in intentional and callous, then you wouldn't be worried about it now. and be lucky you're one of the few with a conscious, UNLIKE the person who took the printer knowing they didn't pay for it. the good part is God does not grant blessings to those who have something obtained in an offensive way (ok I could insert an invading Iraq reference here :sigh:, but read Joshua Chapt 7. I ain't no high holy humble servant of God, but from what I understand you can't expect peace and blessings while holding on to something that wasn't obtained rightfully or honestly, as in that item you obtained via deceit is more valuable than God because you're holding on to it tighter than the word of God, which clearly states the right thing to do. so better to have a clear conscious now than pay for it later yanno)

I'm the type to return something. I even returned something to the delivery guy because I didn't order it, it was an extra soda. only to find out he charged me for 2 after I had a chance to check bill! but my first instinct was this isn't mine, maybe it's for another delivery and what if he has to drive all the way back just to get a replacement soda. I kid you not, all that went through my mind in a matter of 30 secs. but I was later credited for their mistake.

but have a sincere talk with your manager, if you have a decent relationship with him/her. also some things happen for a reason for you to see people's true colors and to remind you to keep on your toes. and do you really want to work for a company which judges you entirely on one thing that's happened in retail all over the world! or someone who understands you do matter?

Yeah...but I seriously think that they must have something against me now, because yesterday our HR manager comes up to me and says, "Someone told me that you were being disrespectful" Now I dunno if there is actually any truth to the matter, because I have a LOT of patience...and remember I've been working in retail jobs for over 4 years, so I know what to expect. And as far as I can remember, I've always been VERY courteous and polite, and I know for a FACT that I have never, ever, been disrespectful to a customer. Now it could just be me being paranoid, but I find that this as more than just a sheer coincidence that this was said to me the day after my major mistake...which leads me to believe that they are now trying to get rid of me, for whatever reason. Of course I don't know what that reason is...maybe they see me as a liability because of what I did, maybe they just don't like me, or maybe its because they're racist...I AM the only black male cashier there. All that I know is that I will be out job hunting Monday morning, when I am supposed to be doing my schoolwork, because I don't want to work for a place that treats you good all up until you make a mistake that costs them money. I'm glad I made that mistake though because now I can see what selfish, greedy bastards they are. Now I could just be seriously over-reacting, but I highly doubt that...especially after hearing that my own manager said that we can't make mistakes...because shes tired of the General Manager bitching at her about "her people".

Speaking of which, I know that the GM is gonna have a talk with me about my mistake when I come back to work this week. And since my 90 days are just about up, its very easy for them just to fire me, which is just fine with me, I'll just take myself downtown to the unemployment office and pull teeth to get those checks until I find something else. The only bad thing is that I won't be able to take that vacation that I so desperately need and deserve for working my ASS off these past few months and I'll be stuck at home just like every other year...I swear to God, I CANNOT WAIT to get this degree so I won't have to put up with this BS anymore!

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to pull myself together now and continue working on the "Forever project" for school...

I would just stay focused on the big picture. because all this stuff will seem trivial shortly.

ironically after you graduate you'll move on to another field and they'll still be there doing the same thing. and for some that may be all they have. so just look forward to the end result of working there - it helped you get through school

Thanks sis...you really know how to brighten my day don't you? Anyways, I've been too busy with school to be worried about that job...thats the good thing about being busy most of the time, doesn't give you much time to dwell on the bad things. Anyways, I couldn't really care less about that job, its just a job...and even though its in a computer store where I could get lots of nice stuff for cheap, its still just a job. Even though I don't think they'll fire me...they'll probably just give me an official warning when I come to work Thursday, and even though I'm not looking forward to being lectured by the GM, it could be worse...and then after that they'll watch me more closely so if I do make another mistake then I'll be fired...but if that happens then oh well, just more time for my school work, and I can always find something else, even though now I'm at the point where I can start looking for work closer to my field of study.

And yeah, I know that I've been working too hard to be yelled at like that, even if I made a mistake, and it was really unnecessary. I'm still a little ticked about that and if they come down too hard on me giving the formal warning then well...lets just say I'll have to make a real decision then.

And as for the vacation, well...I'll figure something out. Besides, you wouldn't wanna come here anyway, Cleveland sucks! But really sis, thanks for the encouragement, it means a lot! :hello:

awwwww

and glad you're feeling better about everything. and yall gonna be beating reggie down? is there a line? or can anyone join in?

I just wonder why they're not focused on the person who took the printer w/out paying. I know they have surveilance cameras and did the person pay with a credit card? also, these products are indexed/inventoried for several reasons including theft.

don't you think it's strange that there's not much of an effort to find that person???

Actually...

Post by KingFo1 »

The customer never left the store. We always have a manager by the door checking receipts for serial numbers for big items like printers and PC's and he caught the fact that I missed the printer before the customer even left the store...the reason WHY he was so upset, even though he caught it, was becaue the customer wasn't very happy and he had to fix it over in service. The fact that I goofed up on the gift card didn't help either.

Well, I'll find out what happens to me in the morning...even though I have to say, I could really care less...if they fire me, then I don't need to be there anyway.

well dayum how big or small was the printer for the customer to not have noticed it. that sounds even stranger.

well, of course the customer was going to be upset, they almost got away with a free printer.

but either way, your boss should know what kind of person you are. or you could be finding out what kind of person your boss is. and you'll be rid of them soon with a better job from all the hard work from school.
