black people and their children's name

but those in same environment who create these ridiculous names want jobs, free upscale homes w/out paying taxes, and handouts from *the same* people who are responsible for being removed from their country or from others insensitive to their plight in america who look at their name and immediately pass on their request.

to me it just boils down to "stupidity" as in instead of taking pride in dumb and comical names that make introductions almost impossible, take more pride in obtaining knowledge of and respect of self, your ancestors and heritage because these same people who create these ridiculous names have no knowledge of self or history, education is a joke, and their role models are thugs, pimps, tramps, hustlas (a.k.a. majority of people in hip hop entertainment) and thus rarely leave their own block.

hey I call it like I've seen it. and I'm black so I can definitely directly speak of what I've seen w/in my own american skin ethnic group. it's a confusion that baffles many daily.

Thank Malcom X and his peeps for this. Go back to your heritage he said and give them proud heritage names. I'm not quite sure he envisioned what the folks are naming their kids today.

Hmmm.....well while I think tamra has a point in saying that people with 'ghetto' names are often looked over when it really counts, I also think that its unfair to judge someone based on their name alone...I mean, I've got a pretty unique name myself (Which I won't say here because its none of ya business) and even though I wouldn't technically consider it to be a 'ghetto' name, it does have its advantages and drawbacks....most people can't say it until I do, and most just ask about where it came from and the usual....but as a child I was really teased alot for it, and at the same time everyone knew who I was...even nowadays people say hi to me and I'm like "Um...do I know you???"

For me at least, you could say its a blessing and a curse...and while I don't think that people should be judged on their name, I have to admit that naming your child such things as "LaQuanisha" isn't exactly the best idea... I mean, if you want to give your child a unique name, do some research...find a name that sounds good with a strong meaning behind it, don't just name them the first thing that comes to your head just because 'It sounds cool' sheesh....that kid will have to live with that choice for the rest of his/her life.

it's actually sad because every long unspellable comical name is a reminder of one more person who's failed to learn their own history and destined to live and die in same block raised in.

I'm sure there are a few exceptions, but rarely from what I see.

there will probably be more LaQuandalisha's before there'll be lots more Condoleeza's

and we're definitely talking ethnic/family vs. names just made up because they sound "cool", but not to employers, bankers, renters, etc.

but some names that aren't the norm, are often sexy on certain guys like "Marion" (thinking of LL Cool J ) and "Leslie"
