I just have to buy a new telephone. and tired of buying the cheap ones which break every few months. the one that just died, I've had for over 10 years as a backup. it's outlasted all the cheap ones. it could just be a battery

but easier to do things the hard way and buy a new phone

I was thinking of having the service cancelled. I rarely use it and it's starting to become a luxury expense. so yet another reason why I never thought about getting a new phone.
