Auburn Tigers - National Champs or Chumps?

So, here it is, 5 minutes after the Auburn Tigers finish their perfect 13-0 season by defeating (in not-so-convincing fashion) the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Nokia Sugar Bowl, 16-13. Where does that leave them? Do they deserve to share the National Championship with either USC or Oklahoma? Does this non-blow out lessen their perfect season (especially if either Orange Bowl team blows out the other?).

On a related note - the BCS... does this system suck or what??? I mean, if I-AA, Division II and III schools can have playoffs to determine a National Champion, why can't Division I???

And on a final related note - GO SOONERS!!!!!!!!!!

well one way to look at it, a team who's 13-0 was a real challenge to other team to beat them badly, and given it was low scoring game, means they both wanted it badly. 1 had more to lose than other, 1 had more to gain than other. can you imagine beating a 13-0 team in playoffs?

oh wait that's almost like the Nets with a better record getting blown out by the Lakers in NBA finals. I can see why Jason Kidd was a lil upset

but 13-0, man that's amazing in itself. the other team showed up with a mission.

if it's not a team from Louisiana, I have never heard of them. how bout dem Saints huh? who dat? who dat? who dat say dey gon beat dem Saints? -- umm everyone, the paperboy, the girl scouts, the crack addict up the block.

Thank God for the Saints (no pun intended).... without them, I'd be stuck making fun of other NFC teams - like the 49ers....

ok so they suck but we ALWAYS have a good time at the games.

actually I remember as a kid wearing the bag on our heads and them being called the New Orleans Ain'ts. there was even a joke about being renamed to the New Orleans Tampons as they're only good for 1 period and no second string.

I even got to meet Steve Grogan of the New England Patriots.

I was expecting a blowout too. But figured since both made it to bowl it was gonna b some trouble on field 4 either.

And prolly becuz Div I can't afford to pay 4 games past reg season Usually it's some kinda $$$ involved. Or there was something stupid that happened long time ago n neva got round to fixin it. I know in my home state some things neva change cuz people r comfy with way it is

but dang in looking at the 55-19 score from USC/Oklahoma , that's really how 13-0's Auburn should have performed. almost like one wasn't a game after all.

what the hell happened to OU? that was crazy. and come on USC ain't THAT good.

I swear, I walked down to the store (only a block away) with the score tied 7-7 and KABLOOIE!!! - it's 28-7 before I can even get my jacket off when I got back!!! See? Had I not been on a Mt. Dew run, who knows what would have happened...

Gotta feel for Jason White, though... the poor kid has been through not one, but two absolute nightmares in BCS games. Then again, whatever signing bonus he gets at the next level will probably help him feel better.

Rule #1: Stay in front of TV. Your direct presence allows players to concentrate.
When you leave, instead of focusing on game, they are wondering where you are until you return.

Rule #2: Have speech with your desired team and the opponents before game. Let them know you mean business. And tell them you have mafia hits pending depending upon outcome of game. They seem to play better. Well, I've noticed.

Rule #3: Ron Artest -- have him on standby. He has time now.

You recalled the demoralizing point early in the game when the OU player picked up a live ball being punt returned to OU and 10 USC guys were around him. All OU had to do was stay away from the ball with 10 USC guys around it. Yet, that yo-yo of OU picked up that live ball! That move was a devastation and a doom premonition. Why would that OU player have a mental breakdown like that?? He learned as a little kid in football, never ever to do that. That mistake is like forgetting one plus one is two and somehow jot down 14 as the answer. That play was so_unbelievable! Why? Getting into my Nancy Kerrigan mode when those maniac busted up her knee, "WHY_______???"

I always called 911. For i felt myself slipping into a coma.

Jason White may be enjoying millions in the NFL next year; but that guy who made that devastation play in the first quarter, though early on, in the game, will have to live with that for the next 20 years. And he probably won't get to the NFL. Now, the coach and others is blaming that particular guy for losing the game. Though, Jason White through a couple of mindless interceptions. (sigh) We cannot change the past.

You ol skoolers Remember in 1982 when a Michael Jordan led North Carolina Tarheels played a Patrick Ewing led Georgetown Hoyas for the NCAA basketball championship. Georgetown was leading the game with 9 seconds left in the game by one point. Georgetown had the ball, too. All they had to do was protect it. But James Worthy of the Tar Heels, tricked the Georgetown Player to throw the ball right in his hands. DEVASTATION!! Worthy, was immediately fouled. He made his two free throws and North Carolina won the Championship-by one point. That player almost could NOT walk back onto the Georgetown campus again. Two years later, Georgtown won the championship and Coach Thompson made it a point to hug that particular guy in front of the entire world. That guy never made it to the NBA. But, enough time has passed now that what happened on that particular night in April 1982 is now in the archives. (even though, CBS replay that scene every year when tournament time comes around).
